Canadian Filipino stand-up comedian Ron Josol headlines the Winnipeg Comedy Festival’s Launch Pad on March 23 at the McPhillips Station Casino in Winnipeg.

Launch Pad will feature 20 of the city’s comics vying for a spot on the comedy festival’s Red Carpet Kick-off show on April 30.

The Launch Pad is the first event ofthis year’s Winnipeg Comedy Festival which will run until May 4 with events in various venues. Performances at the Launch Pad will be recorded for CBC Manitoba Homegrown talent competition.

The comedy festival was founded in 2002 and is said to be the highest rated comedy festival series on CBC Television. The annual festival has been hosted by popular celebrities like Howie Mandel, Jason Priestley and Tommy Chong of the Cheech and Chong duo.

Josol won the “Just for Laughs” home grown comedy competition in Burlington, Ontario, Canada in 1998 which brought him to Just For Laugh Festival that year. Since then, Josol has built a reputation for presenting sidesplitting scenarios and comments on the global society’s inherent contradictions by combining one-liners and story-telling. He has been profiled on the Comedy Network, ABS-CBN Asia, Showtime Dubai, CBC, Discovery Channel, Echo, Omni 1&2, MTV Canada, and recently the Biography Channel in Canada. He has performed in various parts of the world and participated in comedy festivals in Canada and the US.

Josol hosted his own television series on the Omni2 Network called, FLIP and also produced, co-wrote and starred as the lead of a short film based on his true story entitled, Rolling Longaniza, which aired on the CBC Zflicks.
