Animator Dominic Panganiban generates millions of views on his YouTube channel.

Dominic Panganiban of Toronto must have one of the best jobs in the world.

The Manila-born animator draws mostly snippets about his life and uploads his comic videos on YouTube, where his channel Domics is one of the most subscribed in the world.

YouTube is the giant video-sharing platform in which around five billion videos are watched each day by users across the world.

It is estimated that there are one billion users of YouTube, and about 50 million are active channels generating content, like Panganiban’s channel, Domics.

As of June 25, 2018, Panganiban’s Domics channel has 5.3 million subscribers, placing him among the top channels on YouTube.

Based on a ranking by Social Blade, which tracks statistics about YouTube and other social media platforms, Domics ranks 675th in the world.

For a bit of context, consider this: Warner Bros. Pictures’ channel on YouTube is 658th with 5.4 million subscribers. American pop star Britney Spears on the Vevo video platform on YouTube is 690th with 5.2 million subscribers.

YouTube’s music channel tops the Social Blade listing with 101.5 million subscribers. Canadian superstar Justin Bieber is seventh with 39.6 million subscribers.

Panganiban started Domics in 2012, the same year he graduated with a degree in architecture from Ryerson University.

His most popular upload is titled “Crushes”, recalling his childhood experiences in infatuation. It has generated 19.6 million views so far since it was uploaded on September 26, 2016.

Panganiban draws on humour to breathe life into his videos. In “Butts”, he observed that a person’s backside is more important that many may perhaps think. “Because when your ass is kicked, all of you is kicked. Your ass is you,” Panganiban said in the video.

On his personal website, Panganiban notes that many of his material comes from his life experiences.

“Oftentimes, I’d start off asking myself, ‘I hate it when…’ and keep going from there,” Panganiban explains.

One of the most popular videos he made was “Best Friend Zone”. In it, Panganiban recalled how he met a girl from a different high school that temporarily shared the same school building he was in. It has generated 12.2 million views since September 10, 2014.

Panganiban has become a big name that many come to recognize him in public, a fact that inspired the video “Fan Interactions”, which he posted on June 15, 2018, generating 2.2 million views in 10 days.

In “Fan Interactions”, Panganiban says unless he’s rushing elsewhere or trying to help someone give birth, fans should feel free to come and say hello. As he notes, if they have the time to watch his videos, he certainly has a moment to meet them.
