November 16, 2025 – Through its ongoing partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, FilipinoBC is calling for donations to support relief operations and long-term recovery for provinces throughout the Philippines ravaged by super typhoon Uwan which forced more than one million people to evacuate their homes on November 8th. About 4.4 million Filipinos across the country were impacted by Uwan.
“This is a critical moment,” said Kristina Corpin-Moser, Executive Director, FilipinoBC. “Communities that were already struggling to recover from the last typhoon are now facing catastrophic flooding and displacement again. Our kababayans need urgent support—food, clean water, shelter, medical care—and they need it now.”

Super Typhoon Uwan made landfall in the Philippines just days after Typhoon Kalmaegi (locally named“Tino”) devastated communities and left at least 244 people dead in regions including Cebu that are already weakened by recent disasters including a 7.4 earthquake. It worsened an already dire humanitarian crisis following months of typhoons and other major disasters that killed hundreds of people, displaced hundreds of thousands, and caused severe damage to homes, farms, schools, hospitals, and critical infrastructure.
As the full extent of the devastation is still unfolding, FilipinoBC is spearheading a donation drive, through its partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, to provide Canadians with a trusted, transparent way to support Filipino families impacted by these calamities.
Donated funds will be directed towards emergency relief, long-term recovery assistance, and implementing community preparedness and resilience-building programs in affected areas.
FilipinoBC is a community organization based in Vancouver and headed by RJ Aquino. It is dedicated to providing the Canadian Filipino community in BC with essential programs and services that uplift and enrich lives and empower future generations. One of its core missions is to build a Filipino Community and Cultural Centre in BC.
