August 16, 2023 – It didn’t take much to rally the troops, so to speak.

When the Philippines’ Blue Peacock Fireworks delivered the goods as a first-time competitor at this year’s Honda Celebration of Lights (HCOL) on July 29, audiences reciprocated the spectacle by voting for it as best in show in both the People’s Choice and Judge’s Competition awards.

Team Philippines bested teams representing Australia and Mexico in a final show of the three-night spectacle, “based on a tightly choreographed performance” according to the HCOL organizers.

Robert Basihan, Blue Peacock Fireworks designer, shared with Canadian Filipino Net (CFNet) that the team celebrated the win with friends and media as well as a well-deserved break at Cultus Lake in early August.

Vancouver-based Canadian Filipino photographer Diones Lago captured the event, recording the win for posterity, and he shares his images here in this current edition. Lago has a keen interest on fireworks amid the Vancouver skyline.

Lago told CFNet that the opportunities for to shoot fireworks are endless “from Canada Day to New Year’s Eve and the always anticipated annual Honda Celebration of Lights.”
